Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba
Unknown to the world at large, a hidden war is secretly waged between demons and the Demon Slayers. These demons are former humans who possess supernatural strength and are doomed to walk the night by preying on innocents. To combat this otherworldly threat, the Demon Slayers wield powerful enchanted blades and can summon forth superhuman techniques that can put them on equal footing with even the most powerful demons. One such Demon Slayer is Tanjiro Kamado, who joined the Corps in search of a cure for his sister Nezuko, who was turned into a demon during a brutal attack that killed their entire family.

Departing his family's home in the mountains, Tanjiro prepares for his regular trip to the village below to sell charcoal. Because of the deep snow, he is forced to make the trip alone without the help of his siblings. Spending the entire day selling his goods, he spends the night during his return trip at Saburo's house, who is concerned demons will be coming out tonight. Nearing his home the next morning, Tanjiro's unique sense of smell detects blood in the air. He finds his entire family slaughtered except for his sister Nezuko.
Desperately seeking out a doctor in the village, he begins the journey once again with her upon his back. She awakens on the way and savagely attacks him with inhuman strength. In the middle of their struggle, a man named Giyu approaches and introduces himself as a Demon Hunter and has come to cleanse the area - including Nezuko. Tanjiro pleads with Giyu saying he will find a way to return her humanity but Giyu won't allow it and deflects his feeble attack. Astonished by Nezuko's reaction to defend her brother instead of devouring him, Giyu has a change of heart and tells Tanjiro where to begin his journey. |

| Following Giyu's advice, Tanjiro sets out to find Sakonji Urokodaki. Nezuko is sheltered from the deadly sunlight in a cave while Tanjiro purchases a basket that will allow them to travel during the day. They arrive at a temple by nightfall but the smell of blood once again fills the air and they find a demon feasting on some unfortunate travelers. As Tanjiro is attacked, Nezuko springs into action and kicks the demon's head clean off. Still living, the demon is now unfortunately split into 2 parts. Tanjiro pins the head to a tree with his hatchet but is stopped during his finishing blow by a strange man wearing a goblin mask. Tanjiro prepares to smash it with a rock but the goblin masked man notices his hesitation before the rising sun finishes the demon off. As they bury the victims at the temple, the man introduces himself as Urokodaki and has prepared a test to see if Tanjiro really has what it takes to join the Demon Slayer Corps. |

Urokodaki's grueling training begins and Tanjiro spends his days running down the mountain avoiding traps, swinging his sword, and becoming an expert at falling. An entire year passes, Nezuko is still in her slumber and Urokodaki announces he has nothing more that he can teach Tanjiro. A final test is given to Tanjiro - to slice a great boulder in half with his sword. The task seems impossible but Tanjiro diligently spends another six months of training in the mountains developing what he has learned.
One day, a man in a fox mask named Sabito appears thrashes Tanjiro with a mere wooden sword saying he needs to push himself further. A girl in a fox mask, Makomo, also approaches and guides Tanjiro to focus on the basics and the very first thing he learned - total concentration breathing. Six months pass and Tanjiro challenges Sabito once again, who is armed with a real sword this time. In an instant, he slices through Sabito's mask and it falls in half. Sabito and Makomo congratulate Tanjiro and encourage him for his next challenge and fade away. When the fog clears, Tanjiro realizes the boulder has been cut cleanly in half where the siblings once stood. |

Urokodaki gifts Tanjiro with a warding mask and warns him that a demon's strength increases with every human it devours. As he departs, Tanjiro asks Urokodaki to give his thanks to Sabito and Makomo, leaving him to contemplate how Tanjiro knows the names of his two pupils who died during the Final Selection many years ago. Tanjiro reaches Mt. Fujikasane with the other candidates and is given the goal of surviving for seven days. The mountain itself is home to many captured demons who are kept imprisoned by the blooming wisteria flowers around its base.
Tanjiro's training helps him defeat two confident demons on the first night but encounters a powerful morphed demon soon after. The Hand Demon reveals he was put on this mountain 47 years ago by Urokodaki and has been targeting his disciples ever since, identifying them by their unique fox masks. After learning that Sabito and Makomo were among his victims, Tanjiro decides against the decisive neck strike that had broke Sabito's sword. With no choice but to overcome the Hand Demon's incredible regeneration ability, Tanjiro unleashes a flurry of attacks that ends with a Water Surface Slash. |

| Tanjiro spends the remaining week on the mountain fighting demons while attempting to ask them for information on returning Nezuko to her human form. As day breaks, he finds himself in a wisteria grove with three others where they are congratulated for surviving the Final Selection. As Demon Slayers, they are presented with uniforms and asked to choose the ore for their own sword. Each initiate is also given their own Kasugai Crow, an intelligent bird who can communicate with their owner and deliver new missions. Fifteen days later, the master smith Haganezuka visits Tanjiro at Urokodaki's home and presents him with his new sword. |

| Urokodaki bids farewell to Tanjiro and Nezuko as they depart on their adventure. Outfitted with a custom built carrying box, Tanjiro is able to carry Nezuko concealed even in daylight in her shrunken form. Tanjiro's first mission leads them to a town where a demon has been preying on young girls every night. Seeing an opportunity to learn more about Nezuko's condition, Tanjiro resolves to somehow take the demon alive. |

| Along with Nezuko, Tanjiro narrowly defeats the demon plaguing the town. His next mission takes them to Tokyo where Tanjiro suddenly detects a familiar presence that takes him back to the scene of his family's slaughter. To his horror, the scent leads him right to Muzan Kibutsuji, the king and creator of all the world's demons. Muzan strikes with lightning speed and transforms an innocent bystander into a demon. Tanjiro is then forced to put the demon down on the crowded city street while Muzan makes his escape. |

| While fending off the fledgeling demon, Tanjiro is assisted by a woman Tamayo and her assistant Yushiro. Tanjiro is surprised to discover that Tamayo is a demon who has not only regained her human senses, but also works as a doctor working to save human lives. Knowing that he will never get a better chance to save Nezuko, Tanjiro allows Tamayo to inspect her. Meanwhile, Muzan creates more minions to put an end to Tanjiro and the disobedient Tamayo. |
